EQuIS 5 Demonstration at GeoCongress 2006 - Presentation given in Atlanta, GA in February of 2006.

The Ohio Department of Transportation, Office of Geotechnical Engineering, is developing plans for the implementation of a Geotechnical Data Management System (GDMS). While numerous state agencies and organizations utilize systems for managing geotechnical information, only a few state DOT are attempting to fully integrate their document management system, plan review process, geohazard inventories with monitoring data, and geotechnical asset inventory system with maintenance and operation data and construction support in a web-enabled GIS format. Intended as a functional repository with numerous tools and modules for querying, reporting, modeling, and analyzing geotechnical data, the GDMS will support not only the Ohio Department of Transportation, but also the geotechnical community at large, including consultants, geotechnical laboratories, research and academia, and numerous state and federal agencies including FHWA, ODNR, USGS, OEPA, and USACE.

ODOT has geotechnical information dating back to the 1920s, much of which is only in paper format. Studies have shown the replacement value of the data to be estimated at $500 million. Implementation of the GDMS will not only provide electronic preservation of this vast store of geotechnical information, but will also make it accessible for future investigations, analyses, and engineering designs further adding to the value of ODOT's geotechnical information repository.

This presentation will describe in detail the modules and tools of the GDMS from the perspective of several user case scenarios. From a rather simple scenario where a County Engineer can conduct an on-line search in a GIS platform for known geohazards near a county roadway to a more interesting scenario where a consultant collects borehole data in the field, desires to check it for accuracy and completeness, and submits it online to the

GIS and Environmental Data - Presentation given by Scot D. Weaver in August 2002 to the Hong Kong GIS Association at Hong Kong Polytechnic University and to the Environmental Engineering Society of Singapore at the National University of Singapore. Describes historical environmental events and legislation in the US and in Singapore that predate the current regulations in the environmental industry. Covers case histories and describes software and tools used to manage environmental data and facilitate decision making based on the best available technologies.
